So, You Thought I Only Played Metal? Let’s Clear That Up… By Curtis Allen – Versatile Wedding DJ

Wait… Did He Just Drop Bruno Mars?
If you’ve seen me advertised as a rock and alternative DJ, you might have certain expectations and “versatile wedding DJ” might not be one of them. You might picture me dropping wall-to-wall Slipknot, Turnstile, and Slayer, summoning mosh pits at wedding receptions, and terrifying your nan in the process.
But then you scroll through my blog, check out my advertised nights, or see a promo video… and suddenly, I’m playing The Killers, Paramore, and (gasp) Bruno Mars?
So, what’s going on? Am I secretly a pop DJ in disguise? Have I betrayed my metal brethren? Have I… sold out?
Nah. I just know how to read a room, keep a dancefloor alive, and play a damn good mix of music. Let me explain.

“Rock DJ” Doesn’t Mean Only Rock
It’s not just about metal, punk, emo, and indie. The best DJs—especially Versatile Wedding DJs—don’t limit themselves to one genre.
Yes, I can bring the heavy, but I also know how to blend in:
✔ Classic soul & Motown that gets the whole family dancing
✔ Hip hop & RnB that brings out the best moves
✔ 80s synthpop & electro swing for something unique
✔ Pop anthems & guilty pleasures (which aren’t really guilty)
✔ Dance, funk, and even Bhangra (yes, I’ve played Bloodywood)
A great DJ knows that variety doesn’t mean compromise—it means crafting a setlist that keeps the energy flowing and the dancefloor packed.
Sometimes that means mixing Bring Me the Horizon into Britney Spears (yes, it works), sometimes it means slipping a Fleetwood Mac classic between My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy just to watch people lose their minds, and sometimes it means going straight from metal into disco, because why not?
The point is: a good night is about energy and vibe, not genre gatekeeping.
Why Variety Matters (Even at a Rock Wedding)
You want your wedding or event to be memorable for all the right reasons. But let’s be real—while you might love nothing more than five straight hours of metal, your aunt, your mates from work, and your partner’s cousin who only listens to Dua Lipa might feel a little differently.
That’s where a Versatile Wedding DJ comes in.
- At a Wedding: I’ll blend heavy tunes with crowd-pleasers that won’t alienate your guests—so you can get a pit going without sending half the room running for cover.
- At a Club Night: I’ll craft a mix that keeps the energy high, the bar happy, and the crowd coming back for more.
- At a Private Event: I’ll weave in your favourite rock and alternative anthems, while making sure everyone else has something they can lose themselves to.
And let’s be honest—even the biggest metalhead has a soft spot for an unexpected banger. (Don’t pretend you’ve never air-guitared to “Go Your Own Way” after a few drinks.)
But What If I Do Want a Full Metal Wedding?
No problem. If wall-to-wall metal is exactly what you want, and your guests can like it or lump it, just tell me that at our consultation, and that’s exactly what you’ll get.

Good Music Is Good Music
Now, let’s talk about my own music taste—because this is where things get really interesting.
Sure, I love Metallica, Thrice, Imminence, Architects, Slaughter To Prevail, and Bring Me the Horizon.
But I also love:
✔ Adam and the Ants
✔ Barry Manilow
✔ Bitter Ruin
✔ Professor Elemental
✔ The Beach Boys
✔ Ashnikko
✔ Aerosmith
✔ Lamb & Shpongle
✔ Infected Mushroom
✔ Dean Martin
✔ Chappell Roan
✔ Madonna
✔ Bulgarian Folk Music (no, really!)
✔ Lady Gaga
✔ Funk, disco, soul, and electro-swing!
Basically, my philosophy is simple:
🔹 Good music is good music.
🔹 There’s no such thing as a ‘guilty pleasure’.
And I love the opportunity to DJ events that allow me to bring together different aspects of my taste. Maybe it’s a Northern Soul and pop-punk wedding, maybe it’s a goth night with some unexpected electro-swing, maybe it’s a metal-meets-Bollywood wedding (why, hello, Bloodywood!), or a full-blown emo throwback—I’m here for all of it.
And this is exactly why I love DJing in all kinds of venues—from the ones where it’s more heavy and intense, to those with a more mixed, eclectic atmosphere.
So if you’ve ever looked at my socials and wondered why they’re not just full of metal nights, it’s because my gigs reflect my versatility. One night I might be playing a wall-to-wall rock and alternative set, and the next, I could be blending indie, pop, Motown, and funk into the mix—because good music is good music. 🎶

A Multi-Genre DJ Who Actually Knows How to Play Heavy Stuff
A lot of wedding DJs will happily mix up disco, soul, new wave, pop, and indie to keep a wedding dancefloor happy.
Finding a DJ who will do an entire night of metal if that’s what you want? That’s less common.
But finding a versatile wedding DJ who can also work metal, pop-punk, emo, punk, and alternative into your more traditional extended-friends-and-family-friendly wedding fare? That’s rare.
That’s where I specialise.
I get booked for weddings where couples want rock, alternative, and metal elements—but also want to keep their guests entertained. I know how to balance the heavy with the accessible, so your wedding still feels true to you, without alienating half the room. “Get a DJ who can do both”.
And if you do want an all-out metal set? I’ve got you covered.
So, What’s Your Soundtrack?
If you’re looking for a versatile Wedding DJ who understands alternative music inside and out, while still making sure your guests have an unforgettable night—I’m your guy.
