15 Albums That Influenced Me: Starting With Alanis Morissette’s Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie

I got nominated in this challenge on Facebbook, so I am posting 15 albums that heavily influenced me.

Album 1 of 15:
Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie by Alanis Morisette.
Why Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie Was My First Album
Besides compilation albums like the NOW series, this was the first album I ever owned. I asked my parents for it one Christmas when I was about 13 or 14—mainly because the girl I liked at the time was into Alanis Morissette.
I had absolutely no idea what sort of music she made. But, luckily, it turned out to be an album that stuck with me far beyond that crush.
The Impact of Alanis Morissette’s Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie
Many people consider Jagged Little Pill her defining album, but for me, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is more raw, more intense, and more immersive. The lyrics and storytelling have this deep, moody quality that really hit me at the time—and still do today.
My Favourite Track: ‘The Couch’
This song in particular stood out to me—haunting, deeply personal, and full of vulnerability. And it almost feels stream of consciousness-like at times, which I like.
Even over 25 years later, this album remains a powerful listen. If you haven’t given it a spin recently, I’d highly recommend revisiting it.
