Birmingham Wedding DJ: An Incredible Night of Pop Punk, Bollywood, and Bhangra at The Old Library, Digbeth – 28th October

Now, I am a Birmingham wedding DJ, but I get to play at a lot of incredible celebrations at venues all over the country. However, there’s nothing quite like a hometown gig, and Sol and Houms’ wedding at The Old Library in Digbeth the other day was something truly special. When they first reached out, they were on the lookout for a wedding DJ who could seamlessly mix heavier guitar music with Bollywood and Bhangra tunes—a combination they’d struggled to find someone comfortable with. As soon as they told me what they were looking for, I knew this was a wedding I’d love to be a part of!
Meeting the Couple – The Power of Local!
One of the best parts of this job is meeting couples who are passionate about their music, and Sol and Houms were no exception. Our consultation took place at Loco Lounge in Kings Heath, which is very local to me. (Although, I actually had to rush there straight from Coventry after buying a new car, as my old one had decided to give up on me at last—perfect timing!) Over some great food, we had a fantastic chat about their music vision for the night, from Enter Shikari and pop-punk anthems to Bollywood floor-fillers.
A few weeks later, I randomly bumped into them outside their Digbeth wedding venue, while I was having a coffee with a friend next door—proof that Birmingham really is a small world! It was great to see them again before the big day and get even more excited about what was in store.
The Wedding at The Old Library, Digbeth
As a wedding DJ in Birmingham, it’s always a treat to play at The Old Library in Digbeth—a lovely venue with an incredible atmosphere. I arrived at 7 PM as planned, but with speeches running over, I couldn’t start setting up until 8 PM. Luckily, the venue staff were fantastic—super helpful and accommodating, making everything run smoothly.
Once the music started, it was clear this was going to be a high-energy, fun-filled night. The guests were chatty, friendly, and totally up for a good time, jumping between headbanging to Enter Shikari and dancing to Bollywood and Bhangra hits. Navigating between the two styles was a challenge I absolutely loved—seamlessly mixing punk rock and metal with Bollywood beats was such a fun experience.

One surprise of the night? ‘Don’t You Want Me’ by The Human League went down ridiculously well with everyone! It’s always great when a classic track unexpectedly unites the dancefloor.
And then came one of the funniest moments of the night—one of the guests approached me with a cheeky grin and said, “You know, Houms is actually a huge Jonas Brothers fan, but she’s been keeping quiet about it.” Well, I couldn’t let that slide! I threw on some Jonas Brothers, and the look of happiness and surprise on Houms’ face was absolutely priceless. It’s moments like these that make weddings truly special.
A Perfect End to the Night
As a Birmingham-based wedding DJ, I always appreciate a local gig, and after an incredible night of music and dancing, it was just a 10-minute drive home—a rare treat after a late finish!
Sol and Houms were kind enough to leave me an amazing review of their experience—check it out here on Facebook.
